Hi there, after reading your story I felt I had to share with you the ups and downs of my 1st month of ferret (well, polecat actually) ownership!

We’ve named our little guy Alvin and with him only being 12 weeks old, he’s VERY mischievious!

Into everything, seems to like jumping from the highest points possible in our house onto the hard floor??? Very strange!

We also have a 5 year old Jack Russell bitch in the household that seems to have taken on the role of ‘polecat motherhood’! She absolutely adores Alvin and is very gentle and patient with him, more than can be said for him! They can and do play together for what seems like hours on the sofa, jumping up at each other and nipping, until inevitably Alvin will let everyone know he’s had enough by biting our dog right on the end of her nose as hard as he can!

Anyway, I just thought I would share with you my experiences, and to let you know how helpful your website has been for us 1st time ferret owners…

Many thanks, Jess and Tara.

Amazing story about your Jack Russell wanting to play with Alvin.

I was told to keep terriers away from ferrets as that breed of dog might just attack my ferret and kill it. Glad to know that isn’t always true.

Mind you, I guess it’s how you bring up the dog and the ferret. Like this site says, you make sure your dog knows you’re there for it if the ferret gets too rough, same with the ferret if the dog picks on it.

Alvin’s a lucky guy being in your household 🙂

Alvin is a great name for a Ferret. I can just picture you calling him when he’s done something he shouldn’t have. It’s really great your dog gets along with him as well.

I have 5 babies right now & yes, they are just amazing pets.

Enjoy your Alvin.

Hello, I read about your Ferret, Alvin & your Jack Russell Bitch. I liked it.

I have two huge dogs, a Brindle Pit and a long-haired Rottweiler and it’s a little hard to let them play with our Ferret, Snowball Princess. The dogs would rather eat her than play with her.

It is very unusual for a Ferret to jump down from a high place. If your Ferret does a upward hop it is called a POPCORN HOP. Well that is was PETCO told me anyway.

Ferrets are a joy to have around. My two children love the Ferret. They like playing with the ferret instead of playing with the dogs.

I hope you give her lots of love.Ferrets need lots of toys and lots of attention.

I’m a long time Ferret lover. I have owned Ferrets since I was 8 years old and I am now 27. Good luck to you and the Ferret.
