Questions

I don’t know if this is the right section to post in but I’m considering getting a ferret but I have a couple question.

1. People are saying they put holes in your couch and tv stand. Is that true? And what about leather? And for the tv glass/aluminum.

2. Poop and pee? Need some information on that.

Thanks so much

Not all ferrets are destructive but if one is, then yes, your couch will be a magnet. However there are ideas online to help ferret owners to fix it so that a ferret can’t get inside!

We have 4 ferrets and only one loves to dig when he gets inside the couch 🙁 We left it too late to protect it so just put up with it.

No idea about leather. I think it would be hard for them to scratch and ruin the leather but it could be possible.

The TV should be okay, unless a ferret can get up and push it over!! Some ferrets can’t resist chewing on power cords. I’ve never had one but again, there are sites online which can give help with preventing that.

They say ferrets can be litter trained. In all the years I’ve had them, I would disagree. Some ferrets are really good at using the tray while others aren’t. They tend to poop and piddle right in front of the tray – LOL!

This site gives a pretty good idea of the pros and cons of ferret ownership. One thing for sure – some ferrets can be really irritating if they have an OCD nature, and I think most ferrets have that. They love to stash things, they love to chew on plastic and rubber things, and all the rest mentioned here.

Some people can’t cope with those things and I’d hate you to get a ferret only to find that you’re really not happy with one.

Is there a ferret shelter near where you live? If you’re not sure about having one, go to a shelter and speak to the people there. Handle a ferret and see if they appeal to you.

Far better to take the time out to do that then getting one and finding out they’re not what you expected and having to rehome it 🙂

YOU DO HAVE TO GET THEM AS BABIES BUT YOU SHOULD LITTER PAN TRAIN THEN AND FEED THE TOTAL FERRET FOOD – THAT IS THE BEST FOOD. THEY GET A BATH EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. THEY DO GET IN TO EVERYTHING BUT EVERY FERRET IS DIFFRENT. MY FERRETS DID NOT GET ONTO MY BOX FRAME OR THE COUCH. THEY DO LIE ON THEM THOUGH.
