DISCLAIMER: The vets listed have either been recommended, or have advised me personally that they are happy to treat ferrets, or have mentioned that they treat ferrets on their website. However I have no firsthand knowledge of how experienced any of the vets are with ferrets.
It is up to you to make sure that you are happy with the treatment your ferret is getting from your vet. If you have any doubts at all, please think about getting a second opinion so that you know that your pet is getting the best possible treatment available.

  1. I noticed that you have Mcivor Rd vet listed as recommend vets for the Bendigo area.
I recently had a sick ferret and took it to Mcivor Rd Vet, however the vets on duty did not have the knowledge to diagnose my ferret. They hydrated her, however they were not able to take blood to run tests and they referred me to a clinic in Melbourne. I think the attention she received was quite substandard, no sample of her faeces or urine was taken or tested they were unable to take blood from her to test they did not check her ears for mites until I asked over and over again and it took them over 24 hours to do so, they wanted to discharge her even though she was unwell on 45° day just before a public holiday where I would be unable to get any veterinary care in a hurry. I don’t think this vet clinic should be listed for vet care for ferrets. Just my thoughts I thought I would give you some feedback because it’s hard to know. There is one vet At the clinic that may know about ferrets her name is Sue however they do not tell you this when you bring in your ferret and Sue was not available as she had broken her leg so I’m lucky that my ferret did not die, she is still not 100% but seems to be recovering, I’m still looking for a local vet that may be able to give me some answers.

  2. Hi Susan
Thank you so very much for your remarks about McIvor Road vet and apologies for the late reply. Was in hospital and my husband was looking after my site!
How is your ferret now? I’m also very glad that she didn’t get worse while you were trying to find what was wrong with her!
I put a remark against the clinic’s name saying a ferret owner didn’t recommend it, but I tried to find out that “ferret vet’s” (Sue) full name but couldn’t.
If you find a good ferret vet I’d be most grateful if you could share it with us here so that other people in your area will know where to take their babies ?
Once again, so sorry to reply late to your post and thank you for telling us about that vet!
Hugs to your little girl and I hope she’s feeling 100% now!❤️
    Cheers
    ~Nona
